Zone 2 Update | 20 June 2011

Yesterday. High winds from the southwest restricted air support operations after 11:00 am. Structure protection remained in place to protect the towns of Luna and Alpine, as well as the Blue River community. Additional resources were brought in to assist with the containment efforts, and replace crews that timed out. Fire did burn NE of Luna about 5 miles into the Bishop Canyon area. Fire in the Blue River backed down close to the road by the Blue camp ground, and by Mile Markers 26 and 31.

Today. Winds will not be as strong, allowing air operations to support the firefighting effort. Temperatures will be lower allowing firefighters to make progress on problem areas. The fire is expected to back down toward the Blue River. Winds will be out of the northwest which will help firefighting efforts at Luna and aid with the protection of the power lines. The fire environment is much more favorable today but long range spotting remains a possibility.
