Official Zone 2 Update | 21 June 2011 @ 0800

Update:

Operations on the north east side of Luna were very successful. There was 100 Acre breach of ourcontainment lines on the east side of road 19 on Monday the 21st. Fire Fighters had a good plan in place and

were able to contain the fire with the help of helicopter bucket drops and retardant. Today fire fighters will

continue to construct and hold containment lines north of Luna. There will be a number of dozers and crews

in the area to pinch off the remainder of the fire by tying the fire line into road 220. Structure support will

continue to be a priority and fire fighters will be mopping up areas of the fire today.

The north end of the Blue has fire fighters continuing to hold containment lines as the fire backs down to

road 281. Winds are predicted to be in favor for the fire fighters in this area. Today fire fighters will maintain

a vigilant eye on this end and use aviation support where needed.

Near Stray Horse fire lines were tested yesterday afternoon by northwest winds. A 200 acre spot fire outside

containment lines forced crews to disengage. Helicopters dropped 10 loads of retardant in support of the

firefighting efforts on this end of the fire. Fire fighters will work today to find a good anchor point to tie fire

back into Steeple Creek and keep fire west and north of the Blue area.

Temperatures are expected to rise and relative humidity is expected to go down for the remainder of the

week. Due to wind direction residence south of the fires should expect to see more smoke. With additional

resources and a good plan in place the Team will continue to work at containing this fire.
